PILATES is a holistic approach to fitness that combines mind and body training to correct physical alignment and movement. Focusing on strengthening the core postural muscles to stabilize the body, Pilates' movements become graceful and natural as your understanding and practice of good body mechanics develop. This exercise emphasizes low-impact, partial weight-bearing movement, and conditioning the entire musculature in smooth, continuous motion.

Joseph H. Pilates and his wife Clara developed the first Pilates techniques early in the last century: decreasing physical rehabilitation time, complementing traditional training methods, and addressing the entire body in a holistic manner. He originally developed the "Universal Reformer" equipment, which incorporated springs and resistance, to improve muscle performance and structural alignment. As the decades have passed, Pilates' movements and machines have evolved and expanded, while continuing to follow the original intentions of their creator.
