Juliu Horvath, a Hungarian
dancer and gymnast, developed GYROTONIC® and
GYROKINESIS® methodologies to combat crippling
injuries from years of intense dance practice. Horvath refused to accept traditional
medicine's harsh diagnosis and, regarding the body as a system capable of self-healing,
created this new discipline to heal his body. These practices combine a release
of the body's energies with elements of yoga, meditation, and breathwork, while
emphasizing spinal mobilization. GYROKINESIS®
training differs from GYROTONIC® training in
using stool and mat work instead of machines, thus making these movements accessible
to anyone to facilitate three dimensional movement and expand range of motion.
